The topic that interests me the most is Policy and Funding
of STEM Education. The topic interests me because as a public school teacher,
funding is always a critical issue and with the newest president who plans to
shake things up in business and in DC, I am very curious as to what will happen
to public education. President Trump has talked about his disagreement with
Common Core already as well as his desire to increase parent school choice
which could greatly affect public and private schools. In addition, he has said
little about what he plans to do with the current state of STEM education and
whether or not he supports it as well as where he stands with current bills
that would provide funding for STEM programs.
I could address this topic within my internship setting by
speaking with experienced coworkers who have worked through several presidents
and the changes that they have seen and felt throughout the years and whether or
not to be concerned for future changes in the near future. Additionally, I
could speak with my schools administration to ask their opinions on this topic
to see what they have experienced as school administrators and what they have
heard so far about possible changes and what they would look like.
